This arises from my history class. We have been studying all the different beliefs within Christianity in class and it led me to wonder if I identify myself more with being "Christian" or being "Lutheran." It's an interesting question. So I'll ask...

Umm, I don't think I am related to any Pastor Martin. But you never know, this is such a small world. Holy Trinity Where?

Hi! Thanks for commenting about the video on my page. The kid is actually signing the lyrics in American Sign Language. I have have a lot of friends who interpret in churches-both text and song. Without them, the deaf people in their congregations would go without what we hearing people take for granted. I'm not sure it's a bad thing for youth to be excited about the Lord and show it in a way that is meaningful for him/her.

Again, thanks for commenting!

Blessings!

The Altar

I was just thinking awhile ago about the apparent iconoclasm that appears to be going around in the church today. The church is filled of people saying that organized prayer and statues, icons, etc. are Catholic things. I got to thinking about the altar. This is such a very important place in the church, as this is where the celebration of the Eucharist is done. I just looked at a few pictures of Lutheran altars, and started to wonder why people insist on taking away the beauty of our churches.… Continue

Works in Salvation

There, I said it, that old word that many Lutherans seem to think should be taken out of any church-related conversation. It seems that works are becoming so extremely undervalued today that people just don't care what they do in life as long as they believe in Jesus. I hate this constant grace, grace, grace everywhere without talk about the other aspect of salvation. I get the feeling I've mentioned this before, but I just wanted to write out my thoughts here.

Luther placed a very speci… Continue

The Eucharist

I was just thinking about how little respect some Lutherans seem to have for the Eucharist. Many of the traditions regarding it have been abandoned, and people think that It can just be given out to anyone, because, after all, it's just bread and wine, right? Everyone should be welcome, shouldn't they?

This entire point of view is based on, how can I put this kindly, complete and utter heresy. That's the only way to describe it. Most of the people with this lack of respect have fallen into the… Continue

Change

I was just thinking. How much in the church can we change? It is an interesting question. Let's start out with where all ecclesiastical authority comes from.

Pastors: Pastors have absolutely no authority of their own. Don't let anyone let you think that for a moment. Pastors do not have authority in their own right to change anything. Any pastor changing the church to anything else other than what is perscribed by the church is, in itself, heresy. It has always been the view of the church that… Continue

The Power of Prayer (not in a clichéd kind of way)

Gloria Patris et Filio et Spiritui Sancto, sicut erat in principio et nunc et semper et in saecula saeculorum, Amen.

Such powerful words. So powerful, in fact, that traditional Lutherans (and other traditionalist Christians) still bow and cross themselves if they even hear them. What really is the power of these traditional prayers? Shouldn't we just talk to God however we want? Indeed, there is a time for "conversational" prayer, if you will. The importance of these traditional prayers… Continue
